How the Quota System Works

Understanding the division of seats is crucial for your admission strategy.

Total MBBS Seats in India

15% All India Quota

Open to students from all over India regardless of their home state.

Conducted by MCC

85% State Quota

Reserved for students possessing the domicile of that specific state.

Conducted by State Bodies

The NEET admission process is primarily divided into two main streams: the All India Quota (AIQ) and the State Quota. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) is responsible for conducting counselling for 15% of the seats in all government medical and dental colleges across India.

The remaining 85% of seats in government colleges, along with all seats in private un-aided and state-funded institutions, fall under the State Quota. Each state has its own designated counselling authority (e.g., DMER, KEA, DGME) that conducts a separate process for these seats.

Students can simultaneously register and participate in both MCC counselling and their respective state counselling to maximize their chances of securing a seat.

Important Note

Deemed Universities fall entirely under MCC counselling for both UG and PG courses, regardless of which state they are located in. State authorities do not conduct counselling for Deemed Universities.
